WHERE WOMEN COOK

If you haven't seen this issue, run out and pick one up! There are some Amazing recipes inside! The feature on Chef Ben Ford is particularly interesting (and I had the pleasure of interviewing him) from his days at Skywalker Ranch to opening his own Ford's Filling Station, to his ground breaking cookbook, "Taming the Feast: Ben Ford's Guide to Adventurous Cooking" (Atria Books, 2014) he is truly blazing his own trail. He says " I believe that authenticity & the care that go into making food are very important; the extra effort finds its way to the end result. I've discussed this with my dad, (Harrison Ford) who was a carpenter before becoming an actor, he taught me to respect the craftsmanship."

Throw Back to ZZ TOP days….

Throw Back Thursday…. all the way back to my ZZ Top days!
I ran across this album cover I posed for back in the 90's…. an escapade from my former modeling days. Shot by the famous Glen Wexler whose beautiful photos have graced many iconic album covers from ZZ Top, Van Halen to Michael Jackson and Black Sabbath plus Glen is also just a really nice guy. I remember it was a fun photo session the band, Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard were great to work with…. perfect Texas gentlemen and the other models were peaches! Not a bad way to make a living back then! If you haven't guessed thats me down in front in the red top and cowboy boots…. thought you'd get a kick out of seeing this, I know crazy days, huh!

the WAR of ART

When Blake said Eternity is in love with the creations of time, he was referring to those planes of pure potential, which are timeless, placeless, spaceless, but which long to bring their visions into being here, in this time bound, space - defined world. The artist is the servant of that intention, those angels, that Muse. The enemy of the artist is the ego, which begets Resistance, which is the dragon that guards the gold. That's why an artist must be a warrior and, like all warriors, artists over time acquire modesty and humility. They may, some of them, conduct themselves flamboyantly in public. But alone with the work they are chaste and humble. They know they are not the source of the creations they bring into being. They only facilitate. They carry. They are the willing and skilled instruments of the gods and goddesses they serve. - excerpt from the WAR of ART by Steven Pressfield. My husband turned me on to this book several years ago, it has become a guide book of sorts to me…. especially at this time!!!!
